Aiming to identify and help develop best practices and solutions in the oil and gas market, PRIO is constantly investing in several research projects focused on improving the recovery factor of mature fields. The company has established partnerships that operate primarily on three fronts: advanced recovery techniques, improving operational efficiency and reducing costs.

Essential for offshore operations, said initiatives guarantee safe, efficient and continuous production, as well as contributing to the economic feasibility of the fields, reducing risks and maximizing extraction. For 2025, the company plans to increase these investments and more than double its portfolio of projects compared to 2024.

Last year, PRIO had already announced investments in advanced recovery solutions involving low salinity water injection and micro emulsions in water injection, as well as seismic inversion with the development of its own software adapted to its operations. In addition to these technologies, there are projects focusing on solutions such as the use of artificial intelligence to optimize local flow and pressure measurements in wells, the balanced use of chemical products in a sustainable manner and the phenomenon of hydrate formation.

Gabriel Romeiro, the manager responsible for the research front at PRIO, highlighted the importance of this investment and the solutions being developed, not just for the company, but for the industry as a whole: “These projects are part of our strategy to improve the recovery factor of our mature fields by focusing on reducing costs and emissions in a safe and efficient way. The industry gains from the moment we show results that prove the improvement in the safety of our operations with the application of new methods and technologies.”

The projects have an average term of over two years and involve partnerships with renowned educational institutions such as the Fluminense Federal University (UFF), PUC-Rio, the University of Campinas (Unicamp – CEPETRO) and the Federal Technological University of Paraná (UTFPR), as well as startups such as Wikki.
