The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games came to an end this Sunday (28), and among the recent highlights are the judo competitions that brought great achievements for Team PRIO, with two gold medals and one silver medal.

Repeating the title won at the Tokyo Paralympics, judoka Alana Maldonado from São Paulo secured Brazil’s first gold medal in the sport by winning in the – 70 kg category, J2 class, for visually impaired athletes. In a thrilling contest against Yue Wang from China, who had won the last three battles between them, Maldonado won by ippon.

Wilians Araújo also stood out by winning his first gold medal at the Paralympic Games. After winning a silver medal at the Rio 2016 Games, Araújo won the final of the +90 kg category, J1 class, defeating Moldovan Ion Basoc by ippon. His path to gold was marked by quick victories: he beat Yerlan Utepov of Uzbekistan in just 15 seconds and defeated Ganbat Dashtseren of Mongolia in the semi-final in 37 seconds. In the final, he won in 1min11s, securing the top spot on the podium.

Brenda Freitas, in the final of the 70kg category, was defeated by the Chinese athlete Liu Li, securing the silver medal. The dispute was decided in golden score, with Freitas being immobilized, resulting in a wazari for Liu Li.

The results show the commitment and discipline of these athletes, whom PRIO is pleased and proud to sponsor.
